The unintended expatriate blogger behind Basil Kernel Cascade

Hello, I'm Sophie
I work as a project manager. I’m a parent and an expatriate living in Zürich, Switzerland.
Several years ago, I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter abroad.
How It Started
Moving to Switzerland wasn't part of the long-term plan. Like many expat moves, it began as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.
The opening weeks were demanding — new processes, new routines, new expectations. Everyday chores seemed more complex than expected.
The Adjustment Period
Culture shock and uncertainty were part of it, along with plenty of hands-on learning. Gradually, routines took shape. We found spots that fit us, connected with other families, and began creating something that felt steady.
Why I Built Basil Kernel Cascade
Most online resources were either corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism content. What was missing was a candid, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to fill that gap with practical guidance grounded in real life in Switzerland.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site is:
- Hands-on experience from life in Switzerland
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever something truly changes
This site isn't:
- A travel authority resource
- A paid review platform
- A generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in Switzerland continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Zürich or anywhere in Switzerland, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,
Sophie
